Death Note is a manga and anime series by Tsugumi Ohba.

The story follows Light Yagami, a high school student who stumbles upon a mysterious black notebook titled “Death Note.” Inside, a series of rules are written, stating that the owner can kill anyone as long as they know the person's real name and face. When Light uses the Death Note to kill dangerous criminals, he draws the attention of the world's top detective, L.  

The Death Note manga series started in 2003 and ended in 2006, while the anime series started in October 2006 and ended in June 2007.

The main characters of the Death Note series are:  

• Light Yagami: The protagonist of the series, who after discovering the Death Note, uses it to kill criminals.  
• L: The world’s best detective, who tries to uncover who is behind the sudden deaths of criminals.  
• Ryuk: A Shinigami who, to stop his boredom, drops his Death Note into the human world to entertain himself.  
• Misa Amane: A popular idol who also has her own Death Note and the Shinigami eyes, which allow her to see people’s names and their remaining lifespan.
